This past year has shown that access to the internet has never been more important as remote learning, working and socializing have become a way of life. On this week’s episode of PolicyWise, Demetria Wack and Michael Wiafe welcome Sunne Wright McPeak of the California Emerging Technology Fund and Prince Ogidikpe, a field representative for California Assembly Majority Leader Eloise Gomez-Reyes, to discuss the importance of broadband access for all Californians. “This issue of the digital divide is affecting lives every single day,” added Ogidikpe. According to McPeak, 22% of Californians are digitally disadvantaged: This consists of 12% who are not online at all and 10% who have access only through a smartphone. “What the digital world has brought us is a widening disparity between the haves and the have-nots.” Listen to the podcast.
